How to Install the Wrap-Around Rod
Curtain Rod Installation Instructions Please note, you will need two people to install this rod. 1. Assemble the Curtain Rod Start by threading the curtain rod pieces together. They should connect smoothly. If they don’t, they may not be properly aligned—double-check and realign as needed. Make sure the pieces on each end of the rod are the ones with the head mounts (these have small holes near the ends). 2. Determine the Rod Length Hold the assembled rod up to your window to decide on the ideal width. We recommend going as wide and as high as possible for the best look and coverage, so the curtains just touch the floor. Screw on one bracket (either side). 3. Position the Curtains Slide your curtains onto the rod. Hold the rod with curtains up to the window to visualize where the brackets should go. Put the other bracket on the rod once all of your curtains are on the rod & ready to be hung. 4. Mark Bracket Placement Once you’ve chosen a general height and width, mark all 4 bracket holes on the wall with a pencil. You can either screw directly into the wall or drill a pilot hole first, about the size of the screw. 5. Ensure the Bracket Holes Are Level Check that both bracket holes are level using a level tool or by eye. If needed, adjust one of the marks to match the other. 6. Have someone hold the rod with the curtains, while the brackets are screwed into place. Note: the brackets should be fully tightened into the ends of the rod.The brackets must be aligned with so both will screw into the wall, so one will be loose to allow for it to be installed.

Feel, durability, portability, and care The fabric is softer than stiff or plastic-feeling blackout materials and is designed for durability. It is lightweight, foldable, machine-washable, and suitable for travel, hotels, or anywhere you need a dark sleep space. It works with Sleepout curtain products, including Sleepout Portable. Material and safety rationale Sleepout chose a proprietary polyester-based weave to avoid harmful treatments and chemical residues while maintaining blackout performance and durability. Cotton, linen, and other “natural” curtain fabrics can require processing such as: Formaldehyde-based resins for wrinkle resistance and shape retention Plastic-based coatings to stabilize fibers Sterilization chemicals during finishing A “100% cotton” label may not account for synthetic additives, and some natural-fiber curtains fail standards such as GREENGUARD Gold because of formaldehyde and other toxins. Sleepout's polyester construction is the only approach the company found that met its safety and performance goals. Certifications and chemical safety Sleepout fabric is lab-tested, certified non-toxic, and hypoallergenic. It is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified at Class I, meaning it has been tested for harmful substances and is safe for babies and sensitive individuals. It is the world's only blackout fabric with that OEKO-TEX® certification and was the first blackout fabric to meet the standard. Sleepout curtains are the world's only blackout curtains certified GREENGUARD Gold by UL. Sleepout owns the GREENGUARD Gold certification. The exact fabric customers receive—not merely a similar material—has been tested for more than 15,000 volatile organic compounds (VOCs). GREENGUARD Gold certification indicates low chemical emissions and suitability for indoor environments. Sleepout fabric is completely free of formaldehyde and is the world's only blackout fabric to make that claim. Its polyester-based synthetic blend avoids the dangerous formaldehyde levels found in other curtains. While heat can cause other blackout fabrics to off-gas harmful chemicals, Sleepout curtains are designed to remain safe in direct sunlight without releasing dangerous fumes into the sleep space.

The Sleepout Curtain Rod adjusts from 40 to 80 inches to fit a range of window widths. You may make the rod longer by ordering more rods and use the brackets to support it in the middle. Before you install For the best look and coverage, position the rod as high and wide as possible around the window. The rod does not include end caps or finials. They are not required, but standard-size options can be purchased elsewhere in many styles. Install the Sleepout Curtain Rod Assemble the rod. Connect the threaded rod sections. If a connection is not smooth, check the alignment and reconnect it. Use the sections with head mounts—the small holes near the ends—as the two end pieces. Set the rod length. Hold the assembled rod over the window and choose the width. Go as high and wide as possible for better coverage. Add the curtains. Slide the curtains onto the rod. Hold the loaded rod over the window to visualize the bracket positions. Mark the first bracket. Mark one bracket hole with a pencil. Either drive the screw directly into the wall or drill a pilot hole approximately the size of the screw. Center the rod. Measure from the first bracket hole to the center of the window. Use the same distance from the center to mark the opposite bracket hole. Level the brackets. Check the two marks with a level or by eye and adjust as needed. Install the brackets. Disassemble the brackets to make them easier to screw in. Install the top screw for each bracket. Once both are level, drill and install each lower screw. Adjust the brackets. Reassemble them on the wall and set their distance from the wall. Loosen each thumbscrew—the small screw on the side—by hand. Hang the rod. Place the rod in the brackets. If it is difficult to reach, lift one side at a time while resting the other end gently on the floor. Secure the rod. Tighten both thumbscrews by hand.

Sleepout Velcro Mounts—also called Velcro plates in the source—use an adhesive backing to attach to a surface. They let you hang Sleepout Portable over the window frame and can help block light around the curtain's edges. Important product notes Velcro Mounts are not included with Sleepout Portable. They are not reusable or intended as a temporary mount. The source describes them as damage-free and says they can attach to any surface without damaging walls. Install the mounts Clean and dry the installation surface. Position two mounts above the window, leaving some extra space on either side if possible. Do not space them wider than the curtain. Remove the adhesive backing and press each mount onto the surface. Press the curtain's Velcro onto the mounted plates. Remove the mounts Insert a rigid, hard object, such as a key, between the adhesive and the installed surface. The original instructions also suggest a knife; use caution to avoid injury or surface damage. Gently pull the adhesive away from the surface until the mount peels off. Do not try to reuse the removed mount.

For rooms with multiple windows, use additional panels. Bay windows, sliding windows, and windows with a center pane or changing depth may also need extra suction cups. When packed in its carrying bag, it measures approximately 14 × 4 × 4 inches. New-curtain creases Creases from tight transit packing are normal. To reduce them, you can: Wash the curtain. Steam the curtain. Hang it for a few hours. Leave it in use and allow the creases to relax over time. How to fold it into the carrying bag Remove extra suction cups and other supplies from the bag to make room. Follow the panel's natural creases and fold it in half repeatedly. If you steamed out the creases, fold it in half in either direction. When it is about the size of a large book, roll it lengthwise. Place it in the reusable carrying bag. Sleepout Portable installs directly on glass with locking suction cups—no tools required. Before you start Use a clean, dry, non-porous glass surface. The suction cups do not work on wood or drywall. Clean the bottom of each suction cup. Install the cups at room temperature. They can handle temperature changes after installation, but they form a stronger initial seal when they are not cold. Position the sloped, Velcro side at the top and the locking lever downward. Each suction cup is approximately 1.5 inches high and 2 × 2 inches in length and width. The cups are small enough to fit behind blinds. Install Sleepout Portable Place a suction cup on the glass with its sloped, Velcro side facing up. Push the cup firmly toward the glass, then press the lever down to lock it. Repeat for the second cup. Press the curtain's Velcro firmly against both cups. Pull the curtain taut between the cups and adjust it to block light at the top. Fold or roll the sides inward as needed for the best light coverage. Installation demonstrations Fit a small window or manage extra fabric Put the suction cups near the upper corners of the window. Attach the middle area of the curtain's top edge to the cups. Roll the extra fabric on each outer side inward toward the cups. This keeps the installation tidy and helps close side light gaps. Fix a top light gap Confirm that both cups are installed with the Velcro side at the top and the levers locked down. Pull the curtain taut between the cups. Press the curtain's Velcro completely against the cups. If needed, move the cups slightly down from the top corners. The extra fabric beyond the Velcro is designed to meet the window frame. Fold the curtain's top seam up into the window frame so it presses against the top of the window and forms a seal. For a very wide window, add suction cups near the middle to support the extra weight. Extra suction cups are available in a two-pack. Sliding windows or windows with a center pane A center pane or depth change can push the curtain away from the glass. Add an extra set of suction cups and place one cup on each side of the pane or depth change. This holds the curtain close to the glass in the middle and reduces the gap. Bay or multi-depth windows The changing shape of a bay or multi-depth window can leave areas where the curtain sits too far from the glass. Add one or two extra sets of suction cups at the points where the window changes shape. The closer the curtain stays to the window, the better the light coverage. Half-moon, triangular, or other unusual windows Use additional suction cups as structural support and to close gaps. The cups attach only to glass. Add one or two extra sets of suction cups. Put a cup at the window's highest point. Place the remaining cups as symmetrically as possible on both sides. Keep the curtain close to the glass anywhere the window changes shape. For a half-moon window, the source suggests one cup at the top, two slightly lower, and two at the widest point to form a semicircle. Suction cups will not stay attached Watch the suction cup troubleshooting video, then confirm all of the following: The surface is clean, dry, glass, and non-porous—not wood or drywall. The bottom of each suction cup is clean. The sloped, Velcro side points up. The lever locks down. You push the cup toward the glass while locking the lever. You install the cups at room temperature. If the cups still do not work correctly, contact Sleepout and submit a claims form. Include: A clear photo of the suction surface of the cups.
