How to Install and Troubleshoot Sleepout Portable

Sleepout Portable installs directly on glass with locking suction cups—no tools required.

Before you start

• Use a clean, dry, non-porous glass surface. The suction cups do not work on wood or drywall.

• Clean the bottom of each suction cup.

• Install the cups at room temperature. They can handle temperature changes after installation, but they form a stronger initial seal when they are not cold.

• Position the sloped, Velcro side at the top and the locking lever downward.

• Each suction cup is approximately 1.5 inches high and 2 × 2 inches in length and width. The cups are small enough to fit behind blinds.

Install Sleepout Portable

1. Place a suction cup on the glass with its sloped, Velcro side facing up.

2. Push the cup firmly toward the glass, then press the lever down to lock it.

3. Repeat for the second cup.

4. Press the curtain's Velcro firmly against both cups.

5. Pull the curtain taut between the cups and adjust it to block light at the top.

6. Fold or roll the sides inward as needed for the best light coverage.

Installation demonstrations

Fit a small window or manage extra fabric

1. Put the suction cups near the upper corners of the window.

2. Attach the middle area of the curtain's top edge to the cups.

3. Roll the extra fabric on each outer side inward toward the cups.

This keeps the installation tidy and helps close side light gaps.

Fix a top light gap

1. Confirm that both cups are installed with the Velcro side at the top and the levers locked down.

2. Pull the curtain taut between the cups.

3. Press the curtain's Velcro completely against the cups.

4. If needed, move the cups slightly down from the top corners. The extra fabric beyond the Velcro is designed to meet the window frame.

5. Fold the curtain's top seam up into the window frame so it presses against the top of the window and forms a seal.

For a very wide window, add suction cups near the middle to support the extra weight. Extra suction cups are available in a two-pack.

Sliding windows or windows with a center pane

A center pane or depth change can push the curtain away from the glass. Add an extra set of suction cups and place one cup on each side of the pane or depth change. This holds the curtain close to the glass in the middle and reduces the gap.

Bay or multi-depth windows

The changing shape of a bay or multi-depth window can leave areas where the curtain sits too far from the glass. Add one or two extra sets of suction cups at the points where the window changes shape. The closer the curtain stays to the window, the better the light coverage.

Half-moon, triangular, or other unusual windows

Use additional suction cups as structural support and to close gaps. The cups attach only to glass.

1. Add one or two extra sets of suction cups.

2. Put a cup at the window's highest point.

3. Place the remaining cups as symmetrically as possible on both sides.

4. Keep the curtain close to the glass anywhere the window changes shape.

For a half-moon window, the source suggests one cup at the top, two slightly lower, and two at the widest point to form a semicircle.

Suction cups will not stay attached

Watch the suction cup troubleshooting video, then confirm all of the following:

• The surface is clean, dry, glass, and non-porous—not wood or drywall.

• The bottom of each suction cup is clean.

• The sloped, Velcro side points up.

• The lever locks down.

• You push the cup toward the glass while locking the lever.

• You install the cups at room temperature.

• A clear photo of the suction surface of the cups.

• A short video showing how you install them on the window.
